inspiration: a reoccurring dream of mine
basis: four kids are alone in the house playing board games and such on Halloween with the only adult supervision the eldest boy's father (it is their house). As the night is falling and they are getting ready to go trick or treating, the doorbell rings and eldest boy answers. Creepy guy in mask is standing there, eldest boy tosses him some candy thinking nothing of it.
Later in the night one of the kids sees same guy standing out on front lawn staring at house. Kids shrug it off as a Halloween prank. Later they see same guy still there, but he snags some kid that is walking by and stabs him repeatedly in front of the kids' eyes. The kids flip out and close all the door and blinds and lock all the windows and doors. They start turning on all the lights in the house and sit in the living room together. One of them calls the cops as the house is being put on lock down, but the police think it is just another Halloween prank. The dad comes out and asks what is going on and the kids tell him. Dad thinks kids are over reacting and peaks through blinds. Guy is gone. Dad says as much and then power goes out in whole house.
After that it is basically a picking off spree. The eldest says they should go outside, but dad refuses, thinking it is his home and he has to defend it, and eldest son follows dad's rule. Other kids are scared out of their minds.
Dad get's killed and eldest son finally gets everyone out of the house. People start calling cops around the house because of all the screaming, and eventually they respond.
Son finds out that killer was a man his dad had put in jail (dad is a lawyer), and the man got out on parole and killed him. Of course he goes back to jail, but a few years later, on Halloween, kids finds out that the guy somehow broke out of prison, and (of course) is after the kid. He starts locking down the house and all the same kids are there from before to help him, but they all end up getting killed in the end, except the eldest boy who kills the killer just as the cops show up.
